Eileen's Writing

Home Alone With the Ringing Phone
The rain was pouring from the sky as the fast light flashed through the thin glass of the loud rattling room. I stood up from my blanket and laid my computer on the cushion that puddled on the sofa. Shutting the curtains, a sudden ringing occurred from a couple feet from me, where the phone sat beside the large tv. READ MORE

The Three-Legged Race

Last week on Athletics Day there was a three-legged race. Shonny and Kira volunteered and surprisingly got picked!

We tied our ankles together and anxiously waddled to the starting line. Roughly two teams from each class entered. When we finally got to the starting line, we went to the back, and waited. The races started and the crowd erupted with cheers as their fellow classmates raced to victory.

The races continued and last but not least we were up. We were racing against two people from Room 13. The clappers started and we were off. They were fast and we were only walking. We lost our footing and I fell over. Kira erupted with laughter and helped me up.

Sadly, we passed the finishing line in last place. We fell to the ground laughing. All we were happy about was finishing and having fun.

Gardening Council

The Kirkwood Gardening Council has been very busy, designing a new garden for our intermediate school. We are hoping to get a place in the Tui Gardening Challenge for intermediate schools next year. We have already started planning and planting a wide variety of vegetables, flowers and fruit.
As you can see, this is one of Room 2’s lettuces.

I am on the Gardening Council and am thoroughly enjoying all of the planning that we have done so far, I can hardly wait until we get everything planted and I’m sure that my fellow council members are just as enthusiastic as I am about the gardens.

Bottle Rockets

Room 11's topic last term was Space!

Our way of finishing the term off was flying our homemade bottle rocket. A few weeks before term 3 ended, Mr Smith told us about bottle rockets and explained how to make them and what we need to make them.

By the time we were all finished it was term 4. So we went out on the second day, a few of us got ours flown. Some of the bottles didn't fly because the shape was different at the top?

Mitchell had the longest time in the air with 4:74. Mitchell's design was very unique, he had a large weight at the top of his rocket, what also made it unique was the shape of his rocket like a cone. Soon after him was Charles with 4:20. The shortest time was Sam L with 1.46. But lots of people didn't actually fly there's.

Some people had heaps of cool designs and paintings on there bottle!

This is Finn flying his bottle rocket that went 3:06. :)

The Girly Relay

Kate, Xanthe, Ruth & Eileen

Running first was Kate. Anxiously waiting for the 'Go,' not only her but everyone was shaking with nerves in our bodies.

SNAP! Sprinting through the mowed grass, a huge wave of cheering erupted through the area.

Second comes Xanthe. Her legs jolt with her knees flying high, aiming for excellence.

Now it’s my turn. I grab the silver baton and I wobble my way past those who slow down. I shout to Ruth “Run Ruth!” She grabs the stick and thunders through, racing against the fast girls. With a giant leap past the finish line we ended in fourth place.

Sadly we didn’t do as well as we hoped but fortunately the amazing Room 11 won the class shield! Thanks to the boys...

Keep on dreaming

I believe that you should never stop dreaming because one day your dream might come true.

Class Shield

Room 11 Athletics Victory!
On Friday 17 October Room 11 was awarded the class shield for athletics, we can thank our amazing relay teams for our victory. The four members of the girls team were Ruth, Eileen, Xanthe and Kate. The four members of the boys team were Asha, Dan, Ethan and Sam. Most of the members of our class relay teams were already in their house relay so we knew we had a good chance of beating the other classes.

The relays teams did exceptionally well with our girls coming 4th and our boys coming 1st. So thank you to everyone who represented Room 11 in athletics for doing such a wonderful job.

The running ATM machine!

Displaying DSCF0980.JPG

The ANZ mascot (who was an ATM machine) came to cheer us on at our Athletics Day. He ran in the staff relay and gave us ice blocks. Everyone wanted to hi-five him so he went around each of the class groups to see us.

The Athletics Day was fun, apart from the next day when I was all stiffened up!
